Proven Methodology
ISE uses the above strategies to develop community profiles of demographic data, analyses of the local economy and community preferences, analyses of government structures and programs, inventories of business listings, business opportunities, vacant buildings, and properties, and other information necessary for the planning, negotiation, implementation, and development of local projects and initiatives.
We work with participants to brainstorm new, creative solutions—a crucial entrepreneurial skill. In this way, we begin the process of balancing local community and market knowledge with innovation.
The Institute for Social Entrepreneurship works to apply entrepreneurial thinking to a community problem. We are motivated by the conviction that difficult problems cannot be solved without addressing their roots, interrelated dynamics, and chain-reaction of effects.
Our innovative methodology strongly emphasizes:
- Flexibility
- Collaboration
- Networking
- Problem Solving
- Responsible Risk-taking
- Innovation
- Focus on Return on Investment & Social Impact
Building Capacity and Support to Social Entrepreneurs
They build resiliency and a sense of mutual dependency. In other words, we develop social entrepreneurs whose focus is to create positive change for themselves and their communities.
From our experience, successful ventures often depend on a few factors:
- Building the Skills of Individuals, Organizations, and Communities
- Community Buy-in & Process Ownership
- How Well Individuals and Groups Work Cooperatively
- Motivated and Effective Community Leaders
- Access to Resources
- Entrepreneurial Spirit and a Heart for Community
Engaging Social Entrepreneurs and Communities
We engage stakeholders from the outset to build trust, a common knowledge base, a sense of possibility, and a collaborative approach where everyone takes responsibility. This means setting goals together, identifying tasks, asking inquisitive questions, and then divvying up action items based on the group’s capacities, interests, expertise, and skills.
We help individuals and groups establish collaborative structures that are appropriate for the local context and then strengthen their capacities as necessary. This enables individuals and groups to effectively address both immediate challenges and those that will arise in the future.
At the community level, residents and other stakeholders are active participants in the problem-solving process. With their knowledge and other relevant data, we develop a solid understanding of the problem.
We do this by leveraging the following:
- Focus groups
- Public forums
- Key stakeholder interviews
- Local surveys
- Targeted internet searches
